Tarot Tuesday – Mini Break

So.  Normally I try to do these posts over the weekend because there’s A LOT of photography, editing, researching, organizing, and writing.

This did not happen for a few reasons:

1) I’m on steroids and my brain is all over the place

2) it was so damn hot I felt like I was going to combust if I came within a few feet of a window

3) it was Father’s Day weekend so I was a tad bummy and withdrawn.

Instead…I’ve decided to show two of my favorite decks that I have not featured in the usual Tarot Tuesday posts.

Tarot Tuesday – The Empress

I’ve been reading Tarot for a few years now…and I still get this card and the High Priestess mixed up in my mind occasionally.  I think it’s because they both occur early on and are both women and are back to back in the deck.  At first glance, they also look slightly similar – lone women on a throne.  (Note: I don’t get any of the queens confused with each other…so take that as you will.)  But that is where the similarities end.

Tarot Tuesday – The High Priestess

I have an interesting relationship with this card.  Some days it just comes easily to me, and others?  Others I struggle.  It is quite fitting with this card as it is the number two and duality (two sides of a coin, as it were) is the core essence of that number.  This card is also very secretive and mysterious, so it does lend itself to being difficult to grasp.

And, as usual, there is an NSFW card in this deck (the Mermaid deck, of course).

Tarot Tuesday – The Magician

Some Tarot cards you click with  more than others.  Which makes sense, in a deck of 78 there are going to be some that just don’t come as easily.  This card is one of the ones that doesn’t.

As you’ll see below, this card is one of the few that doesn’t vary too much in imagery.  There’s just not as much subtle nuance to this card (again, in my opinion) as there are in others.

And, as a warning, the mermaid deck does contain another NSFW card.  That is the one and only card in this set like that.

Tarot Tuesday – The Fool

Alright.  A few things before we get started:

  1. For the time being, I am focusing on the Rider Waite Smith (RWS) system.  There are others, but this is the most common.
  2. There are some NSFW cards.  Not as in they’re intentionally NSFW, but Tarot lends itself to naked figures – especially women.  You’ve been warned.  (Also, if this offends you I apologize…but there’s not much I can do.)
  3. I am focusing only on one card each week.  Yes, this means it will take 78 weeks to get through a deck.
  4. I am going to avoid getting into anything religious – I don’t think it has much of a place with Tarot.  That said, it might pop up here and there due to the nature of the beast.
  5. I have a large collection.  There are countless more decks out there.  This is only a small sampling of what I already have.  I’ve tried my best to divy them up by category: traditional, pretty, fairy, animal, mermaid, dark, happy, legend (Arthur in this case).
  6. I do use reversals in my readings.  I don’t go into that below because how I read them honestly depends on the reading.  Sometimes (most of the time) I read it as the more negative aspects of the card.  Others it just means that there’s a blockage there that needs your attention.
  7. I’m a card collector.  There are some Tarot readers that scoff at that as if I’m not serious enough about it.  However, I love collecting them.  The artwork is gorgeous.  And, hopefully, as you’ll see there are so many different aspects to capture in a card that some decks just do it better than others.

Okay.  I think that covers it for now.
